Default Creating Router table mounting plate opening

    Hi

Somewhere on the net I read about a method of creating an opening for a router mounting plate opening, using a bearing guided straight bit and (I think) a bearing guided rabbet bit.

The method was/is "very slick", in that the mounting plate is used to create the template that is used to create the opening AND if IIRC ALSO the recess used to support the mounting plate.

I think the question was previously raised here. I have searched the net and this site and cannot find the information.

Does anyone recall the method / site or information to which I refer?
    Kind Regards

    Peter

Measure the dimensions of the plate and produce a template from MDF or Plywood with the Cut -out size determined by the guide and cutter you will use
For example If I were to use a 16mm guide with a 10mm cutter I would require the cut-out to be 6mm longer and wider than the base size.
Also if I wish to add a rebate to support the router I would first rout with the above combination to the depth of the thickness of the base then with a change of guide and cutter say 40mm guide with the 14mm cutter rout the internal shape to leave a rebate of 10mm for the router support.

There are other combinations of template guides and cutters that will achieve the same results.
