Question DeWalt Palm Router (New) - Availability

Any idea if DeWalt's new palm router will be available in either Aus or NZ anytime soon?

    Sorry, I fear not.....

I saw that router on a US website months ago and thought it was fantastic, but don't hold your breath on it ever coming here.

I was seriously considering buying this from an online US supplier (e.g. Tool King) and running it off a stepdown transformer.......but this 240V UK version changes that !

Thanks for the link.....just have to find an online UK supplier than will ship to Aus.

    Default UK outlet

It looks like a great package.

Axminster have one of the better looking deals around. I requested a postage cost to Wellington, New Zealand a couple days ago, 87GBP. All up 296.02GBP inclusive of VAT (17.40) which I'm assuming we can remove.

Not cheap but considering we're unlikely to see this router anytime soon in our neck of the woods it might be worth it. They also have a fairly good deal on the Bosch but I prefer the options with the DeWalt, especially the plunge base option and decent looking dust extraction attachments.

Wonder how much import duty we'd be hit with?

Most things I've bought from the UK have had the VAT deducted at source for overseas shipping; I guess it depends how familiar they are with the procedures.

I found that Axminster site too, but might have a Google around to see if there are any better prices to be had in the UK.

    Default Good Deals

Let me know if you find any better deals. I think the best bet is to find somewhere that might do better postage rates. Most of the prices appear to be much of a muchness.

What method were Axminster quoting on to send this? That price sounds more like Fedex/UPS rates than airmail. I'll have to look at the website again to see what the whole kit weighs.

    "TNT ECO"

    Weight: Total package = 10.84kg
    Volume: 34.27lt (0.03 cubic meters)

Specs on website give the following:

Nett Weight: 2.9kg (with plunge base fitted), 1.9kg (with fixed base fitted)

That's a lot of extra weight in the accessories, guess there is also a case to take into account.

Yes, yes, yes, I want one too. Hell not coming to Australia, not a happy shopper. If you do a search of UK sites you can get it down to 224 pounds inc VAT.

The specs state that the collet size is 6-8mm - could this be a problem in Oz?

    Default 1/4" collet

Collet is 1/4 inch so should be fine.

FWIW I just emailed DeWalt Australia to enquire about local availability. I'd be 99% certain the answer will be just a blank look (if I get any response at all...), but it's worth going through the motions before bringing one in from the UK.

I'll post if any response is received.

    Default SBD Response: NZ

I received the following response from Stanley Black and Decker in New Zealand some days ago:

"I have no information in regards to a new router being brought into the brand im sorry. Perhaps this model can be purchased online internationally?"

    Response just received

"There are no plans in the near future that D26204K is coming into the Australia/New Zealand region. I am unable to advise you if we will even be getting this tool here."

    Nothing too surprising, eh?

    Default Green Button Fever

Guess we'll just need to hit the green button overseas if we're keen.

Do you think DeWalt AU or NZ would cover warranties for models not sold in their respective countries? I'm thinking no unless it's an international warranty.

    Hmm...
