Default Making a dovetail jig template

I have just replaced the 10mm thick aluminium comb on my blind dovetail jig at a cost of over $70

I was thinking that maybe I could use this to make my own template out of some good strong timber, and someone suggested using what the old Gifkin dovetail jig used.

Can anyone please tell me what that material would have been, and if there is a better material that is now available?
    regards,

Hi Jill, have a look here . It states that :

The templates are CNC machined in Phenolic resin, an extremely tough and very stable material, often used where dimensional stability is critical. As there is a bearing on the cutter that runs against the template, you should never wear a template out.

Not sure where you might buy phenolic resin. Does anyone know?

Found an interesting thread here. Have a look at Glen Bridgers comments - 10mm perspex may be a better way to go

I used 10 mm perspex for the one I made a couple years ago.
Make sure you get the one with paper on, not the one with "glad wrap".
The first one is extruded the latter one is cast and shatters easily.
Or is it the other way around
Anyways, the one with the brownish paper is the good one.
