emergency/external switch for router table.
Hi Folks,
Last year i built myself a quick router table which proved really useful for my projects, unfortunately I just made it cheap and nasty and i now feel it's time to make something a bit more long term so i'm building a new one. I'm making it as a cabinet with drawers and castors to make it easy to move around. The other thing that I would like to improve on is the accessibility of the on/off switch, preferably with something that you can bump off in case of an emergency.
The router i am using is the 1400W triton which i recently bought, it's a beauty and i'm really enjoying working with it but the on/off switch is a pain and not ideal for a table setup.
I want to get something like this but with a plug and socket on the back where i can plug in an extension cord and the router itself. I've been scouring the net but i wouldn't know what to call this thing, it's basically a standalone switch with standard 10A sockets.

Basically i want to avoid having to do any wiring if possible. Anyone seen something like this before?

I must admit, I've never seen an emergency stop switch with plug and sockets before. That kind of defeats the purpose - they are designed to be hardwired for safety reasons. History tells us that if someone can just unplug and bypass the switch, they will.
There are a multitude of hard-wired emergency stop switches available. For example:

The control switch on the Triton work stations and stands are like that. I don't think they come a separate built up unit, only fitted or as components.

I was going to ask a question about these switches in a new thread, so may as well do it here.
I am going to have my router in my new table plugged into my shop vac with the auto on.
Can I place one of these switches between the router and the shopvac?
Cheers,
Peter

Remember that the Tritons have an interlock between the power switch and the spindle lock mechanisms for bit changing. You will still need access to the switch for through table bit changing. It can be useful to mount the remote switch above the table and fence for easy access, rather than the more typical front of cab or end of cab below table locations. I have bandsaws with the switch style the original poster linked to and find them a pain as the cover locks every time it gets touched and can be awkward to unlock to restart machine, particularly if jugjling workpieces at the same time.
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

How about...
One of these - NEW ON OFF Water Proof Push Button Switch KAO-5 10A 380V PushButton | eBay
and one of these...
New Red Sign Emergency Stop Push Button 660V Switch High Quality Hotsell FV88 | eBay
And in Australia you are allowed to do your own wiring for anything that plugs into a socket (it's only 'permanent wiring connected to the power grid' you are not allowed to play with).

I can't see why not but it will be interesting to see whether the auto switching of the VC works.
My guess is the VC will switch on/off when that intermediate switch is turn on off rather than when the router is turned off.
I guess you can always leave the router switched on?

Hi what you're after is
productimages
I bought one for a lathe that had been converted to single phase motor and didn't have an on/off switch !
The only thing to be careful of is if you router has a break fitted to slow the motor after you switch off.
I tried this with my makita router and it prevented the automatic break opertating when it was switch off and only worked when the switch on the router was released.
