Feedback on Carba-tec router tables
g'day -
i see from delving into old threads that the carba-tec sliding router table (ms-rb) is not well thought-of
does anyone have any feedback on their other two tables - the basic cast-iron table (rt-017, $329) or the cast-iron with tenoning attachment (rt-660, $849)?
i suppose the other option is the kreg precision table (kr-prs1040) - or a home-made table using the kreg insert and fence
i intend to fit my triton tra-001

We , The Hills Mens Shed , bought the basic table some long time ago.
When it was delivered we found that the cast iron dust extractor port that is also the mounting point for the fences was not straight. The fence could not be set in a straight line. The table was useless.
Carba-tec replaced the piece, no questions asked, but it took about 3 months.
The stand for the table was very difficult to set up, the instructions were awful, but this is a set up problem - once the stand is built it is OK except for the table tilt.
The table is heavy - a good thing, but tilting it to change router bits is difficult and the stays that hold it in position are not good. This is from a bunch of old blokes that don't like "heavy", but the problem is real. The weight of the table makes it a very dangerous device if it drops off the stays.
Because of the thickness of the cast iron table, a collet extension is necessary for just about any router bit you use - this is probably not confined to this particular table, but you don't know about it until you start to use it.
The fence position and the router bit height are quite difficult to set accurately, there is no fine adjustment for either setting. Once again, this is probably the same for all tables of this type.
It works. It does a job. We would not buy another one - I guess we would probably build one next time around.____________________________________________________________

Router Table
I also bought the basic table and found the same problem with the fence not being straight,I put the whole unit on my 6 inch belt sander and made it true, took about 5 minutes.(didn't seem to hurt the belt doing cast iron instead of wood)
I have a Triton router mounted in this unit so changing bits by lifting the table up is not required,I use an extension when using 1/4 inch bits almost all the time, just a bit of info.the triton collet for 1/4 inch i had problems getting tight so have replaced it with a Girfin (spelling?) collet
The other thing I did was drill some more holes for the hold down fingers as I didn't think they were in the correct position.
Over all a good solid unit and much more stable for repeatable cuts than the Triton table I had before.

I purchased the Carbatec model with the tenon attachment. nrb's comment about router choice is 'spot on'. The Triton unit works well and allows easy adjustment. The router bits can be changed from the top of the table (I modified an open ended spanner to facilitate access) The dust collection is good. The only down side was the user manual. I ended up contacting Carbatecs supplier (OS manufacturer) and they supplied one
