    Default Finger (Box) Joints

    Howdy again,

Wondering if there is an easy way to make a jig to make finger joints using a hand held router. Can you buy a jig like those cheap dovetailjigs or maybe even use those with a straight bit & template guide in some kind of fashion ?

I know it's simple on a TS with a dado set or a router table also, but I haven't either of these as yet & not to sure about using dado blades from what I'm told .

    Many Thanks

    Woodchuck.

I do all my WWing on a B'n'D Workmate, outside.

I made a router table attachment that sits on top of the workmate. I designed it so that it attaches when the jaws are opened to nearly their maximum, and the router hangs in between them, to keep the hight down.

The router table is about 450 wide by 1100 long.

I then made a finger joint jig much like those used on table saws (simple upright fence with locator peg to space the fingers).
Because I don't have any chanels to run the jig in, and because my table is narrow, I made the jig a bit wider that the table and it's guided by the edges of the table. It's kind of like a sled.

It works really well. I used it for a set of drawers for a table.

it's kind of like this one, but longer, for stability.
