Help with new Router Inlay Kit
Hi all. I have just purchased a new Brass and Carbide Inlay Kit for my hand held router. I understand the concept behind how it works, but has anyone got pictures or an explanation about the best way to go about using this jig/kit? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
The kit consists of a 1/8'' solid carbide spiral cutter, alignment pin, a threaded (template following type) brass insert to screw into the bottom of the router and an 'o-ringed' bush that fits over centre 'tube' of the brass insert.
Thanks in advance, MattI'm confused??? Oh wait... Maybe I'm not?

Thanks Ray,
I was about to ask the same question as Matt.
I've got all the bits and pieces and am keen to have a go.
Rays links are exactly spot on.

Ray,
Thank you very much for the information that you provided. It was exactly what I was after and more!! Now that I better understand the process of using this kit, I need to source a collet/sleeve for my Makita 3612C router that will take it from 1/2 inch down to 1/8th. I hope this is possible??
Cheers, MattI'm confused??? Oh wait... Maybe I'm not?

You're welcome, Matt.
If your kit looks like this, then the cutter has a 1/4" shaft (the cutting part is 1/8"), so that's the reduction sleeve you need and I'd guess one came with your router.
If not, any good quality 1/2" to 1/4" sleeve will do the job. HTH
Ray.

Matt and BBM,
With a kit like this, all inside corners will have a radius when routed. The matching part will, of course, be an external corner and will probably be cut to a sharp apex. It is therefore essential to either trim the internal radius with a knife or chisel or round the external apex to achieve a perfect fit.
