Incra positioning jigs - imperial vs metric?
Hi all,
First post and I'm asking questions rather than showing off lovely handiwork - sorry
I'm about to order a metric LS positioner super system and wonder if there's any issue in getting the metric version. I very much prefer working in metric but would work in imperial if for example buying router bits to suit was difficult or if all the templates are in imperial. I'm thinking in particular of dovetail bits and templates, but it would be good to know of any other 'gotchas' before I order it.
Cheers,
Simon aka Angusdog.

Welcome to the forum Simon.
As far as I am aware the LS in metric comes with metric templates, there are metric router bits available as well, Whiteside being one.
I own the Imperial version, bought before the metric one came out, and have never had an issue using it but if I were to start again I would go for the metric one.
Either way, a great bit of kit.

Hello from Guatemala today, I have the imperial and I use it as if it is metric with no problems that I can see. I have the conversion to do but I can't see why I would need it, if buying new get the metric anyhow.
SBPower corrupts, absolute power means we can run a hell of alot of power tools

Well it appears that my role is to be the Devil's Advocate! I would go with the imperial jig if for no other reason than the fact that there are so many more templates available, and always will be, simply because the imperial jig has 32 increments to the inch while the metric jig has only 25 (approx). This allows greater versatility in joint spacing and stock width. The fact that you're following a cutting template guide means that using either of the two systems is very much the same.
That's the way I see it anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I think 25 templates per inch versus 32 will be academic until my skill level increases dramatically
I've ordered the metric one and a whole swag of other items today, timed so the delivery should be while family will be on holiday (I have to keep working). Using the old "Oh, this old thing... had it for years..." defense...
I see Woodwork Supplies are a sponsor of the forum - their service thus far has been excellent.
Cheers,
Simon.
