    Default New jig: Mitre Maker

Saw this advertised in Wood Review today. Its definitely one of those things where you wonder why you didn't think of it yourself! Great idea though, and it looks well thought out and manufactured. And best of all, a good Aussie invention.

A suggestion I have is for a measurement scale readout of more than just every 10mm. Perhaps a fence stop that locks at 1mm increments would top it off nicely. Otherwise, well done to these guys

Roger Gifkins has had a part in its design too.

    Looks very interesting.
If Gifkins has had a hand in it it will work as advertised. (Very happy user of his dovetail jigs).

$300. Good that it's an Aussie invention but I wouldn't pay that for it.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

    I agree, $300 is a bit steep

Great idea, well presented and it appears to be well made - I personally would cut an approximate mitre rather than rout a square edge to 45 degrees.

$300.00 ++ Yes, it does appear to be expensive - so…..

what is the price people would be willing to pay?

what price would be the point where people would be "encouraged" to make their own?

how long before "you know who" bring out an el-cheapo copy which will sell "X" times more because it is cheap rather than works perfectly.

Unfortunately, there have been many products which have died on the gallows of price.

I think the problem that they'll face with pricing it so high is that people like us will make our own. A piece of Delrin or Phenolic, short bit of T-Track and away you go. Not too hard to add a perspex or polycarbonate shield either.

Maybe even add some sacrificial pieces to stop chip out.

Yeah thats the reasoning behind me asking if anyone uses it. It seems like its well made but surely I could make one out of ply and provided I used a bearing guide it would work.

    March 15 - now - May 30.

It appears that no jigs have been used or built.

Seems a pity as the concept is great. Perhaps a pity that someone thinks they can make a fortune out of this. I understand that the initial design, testing, tooling up etc can be expensive, but, if the market is not interested [the price point is too high] then the idea dies. Shame about that.

So this would be suitable for mitre frame for the likes of picture frames and wood dimension under the thickness of 80mm. You wouldbt be able to use it for boxe sides. Too bad it doesnt have a 45degree raiser that you place under the workpiece that is clamped and you run the a straight bit oflver the long edge. That could be handy

Hmm it seems that someone over at Mitre Maker has been listening

    http://www.mitremaker.com.au/another...-router-table/

This was the one flaw i could see with the jig. This looks pretty accurate. Then again my table saw can make pretty accurate mitre cuts also
