It's not necessary to buy top quality tools (although they are nice to have). I made my first set of dovetails with a cheap plastic handled tenon saw and a set of the yellow handled Stanley chisels.

One way of getting good quality tools is to buy used. Do you have any tool markets near you? There must be mountains of second hand tools in the States, I reckon you'll pick up a nice tenon or dovetail saw and a chisel or two if you look around. There's also EBay but make sure you check prices before you commit to anything.

Another thing to consider is that a lot of people are favouring Japanese saws for dovetails etc these days, so worth checking out.

I purchased the 7 year set of bound volumes of Woodsmith and Shopnotes earlier this year, plus a two year subs on both mags, and some of there small bound bools. All paid on Visa without hassle. Placed the order on line with them and had a shipping quote for the bound volumes back within a day, accepted that and had them within 19 days. Will PM the email of the Customer Service person who handled it for me.
Mags arrive by surface mail about 7 weeks weeks after release in states, at the International subs prices posted online.
