Makita 3601B adaptor for Leigh
G'day everyone,
Can anyone provide me with an image of the adaptor required for the Leigh dovetail jig.
Leigh quote #321 493-1, but google was no help, and neither was the Makita site.
Just Tools can supply one, but I want to make sure it is what I need

Stuart,
the Leigh charts say use the 321 493-1. I have a few and have posted a pic with three of them. Sorry for the phone pic .
- The first is the Triton guide bush 711TP (top center).
- Second is the Makita 5/8" standard guide bush (left) that came with my 3901B.
- The last (sitting in the plate) is a third party 5/8" bush. Its securing ring is by itself to the right and would normally hold the bush from beneath the plate.
Some other info on bushes is here.

Thanks Groggy
I have the 711TP, but as you know, it's too small for the standard hole.
I was wanting to make sure the Makita adaptor would take the 711TP without modification.

Other option is to go for an aftermarket glide base plate that takes standard PC template guides, and then use either the appropriate sized guide or a Leigh e guide.
More versatile in the long run if you are likely to do much template or jig work.

Stuart
I bought a 321-492-3 (Template guide adapter) for my Makita 3612
The 711TP fits in perfectly. I found a picture and part number in my Makita 3612 manual. Perhaps worth a look in your router manual for a picture of the adapter you are looking for.
It is probably no more expensive though to buy a universal perspex base plate pre drilled for the standard template guides. The 711TP will fit the standard cutout.

It pays to shop around
Thanks for the replies.
I found a shop online to supply the guide. They wanted $43.00 + $8.00 postage.
Went down to the local Glenfords and they actually had one in stock (2 in fact).
Bought that, and a new blade guard for my drop saw. Total cost $49.00.
I won't be going to that online shop ever again.
To Mat...I bought the router from ebay. No manual, not even a spanner.

I was at our local Mitre 10 (which is the Makita dealer here in Hobart) today asking the very same question. $29 was all they were asking for the adaptor.
Unfortunately Makita don't do one for the 3608B which is my other router.
