Default Makita router in a white box????

Looking in my local M10 store today and saw some Makita tools in White boxes with multi-lingual writing while others were in the familiar (to me) blue boxes with English-only writing. Are these "white box" tools a "budget" breed (of tool) or has Makita changed it's packaging? There were others that were in fitted plastic cases. What's going on?

In a way, it does explain the difference but I would have thought the marketing people would have done something like adding "Anniversary Special" or something to the packaging. The fact that the box had the product description in 4 languages made me think that this was a product originally designed to go into Europe rather than the US/UK/Australia which made me think "grey import"/"what's the warranty like?" thoughts. As for being "lightweight", this was a "corded" tool so perhaps there were some less-often used parts not included in the box?
