Default Makita RP2301FC for router table

Hi, Folks I just bought one of these for use in a router table I'm putting together and thought I'd post answers to a few questions I had about this tool.
This model is still made in Japan and feels like a well made professional tool.
It includes the screw for above table height adjustment and a 12mm 1/2 shank router bit along with the usual other bits.
The unit has a nice soft start and is quieter than my smaller router and smooth in operation.
The power switch locks on and does not reset when the power is turned off remotely as it will be in the table.
It has a motor brake that stops the cutter very quickly but with a bit of kick, this does feature does not operate when the power is turned off externally.
Happy to answer any other questions people may have about this. There aren't many options for routers with above table height adjustment , Triton seem out of stock everywhere and the big adjustable speed Hitachi seem to be discontinued.IMG_20200814_163552#1.jpg

That sounds like a nice machine. Didn't know that they still made any routers in Japan. I am assuming it is new as it certainly looks new in the photo.
Where is the above table winder or are you just referring to the height adjuster stop?
I am sure you won't go wrong with that beast and if you mount a switch on your new table you will be able to turn it off there rather than using the inbuilt switch.

I’ve been looking at that beast myself.
I don’t know if the screw comes in the package but it apparently will give you about 1mm of adjustment from above the table.

I think the screw must be able to go right through that hole and you should be able to adjust it as much as you like. The 1mm refers to the pitch of the 6mm thread. The only problem with the screw is it will move up and down with the router body so you would only want to fit it when it's needed otherwise it will be poking its head out of the table every time you raise the bit up. Having said that it will be handy for fine tuning the depth of cut when critical instead of trying to move it by hand.

I’d probably just use the standard fine adjustment from under the table like I do with the Triton as you have to lock it from underneath anyway.

I’d be Interested to know from anyone that has one whether you can access the collet nut from above the table like you can on the Triton.

Yes the router is new and the included screw allows for the full range of movement, apparently it moves 1mm per rotation.
The guy in this video seems to be accessing the collet nut from above the table.

Good adjustment from on the top

Collet nut access from the top Not sure how good that is re full spanner contact and he still has to go in from underneath to lock the spindle. Please let us now how you go with your unit in the table and whether you gave to lock the router in place or whether it stays there after adjusting with the screw without locking whilst actually routing.
    Cheers

I never lock the router adjustment in place, just rely on the M6 screw adjustment in place. Have never had a problem. Unlike Tritons you don't remove the springs when table mounting the Makita. You can't effectively change bits above the table with the Makita and while this is not currently a problem for me that could change as I move further into my dotage.

I'd recommend the big Makita to anyone. Excellent machine.

Thanks. If I don’t lock the Triton it will wind itself down as you use it. Not ideal!!

You can actually see the fine adjustment knob rotating on mine as it slowly lowers itself.

For anyone interested , this router needs 4mm x 14mm screws for fitting to a standard 3/8 thick router plate.
The screw for height adjustment is a P3.
