    Default Makita RTO700CX

So late last year i got one of these little trimmer/routers and have found it excellent for smaller jobs that would find a full size router too cumbersome.

I have a yearning for more attachments to expand it's versatility.

To get some of them locally here (4 attachments, scroll down) http://justtools.com.au/makita-routers costs an absolute mint ($450 plus shipping) and frankly is plain ridiculous.

Whilst browsing i found this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007JN24I2/...&dra_ohs=24-48

You get all of the locally available stuff plus more. I realise that the router itself is rated for US 120 volts and may be useless here, but it's also a cheaper way to get all them useful add-on's.

I've always been wary of buying overseas and have never done it (haven't enquired about shipping yet) and was thinking of jumping in and have a go with this.

There are threads on here about the subject, but a search either found nothing or a million results so thought i would ask direct.

Any one here care to share their OS buying experiences for a newbie, advantages and pitfalls...

    Thanks,

    Steven.

    Hi Steven,
I have had one of these for a few weeks now and am very happy with it. I used to use trimmers a lot in the cabinet making/furniture industry for small routing jobs and in use with the making of templates and cutting curve's a very handy bit of gear and with all of the available attachments looks to be a good small router set up. As for the 120v you can get a transformer from ebay for less than $40.00, and by the look of it as you say just the attachments at this price would seem a good buy.
    Regards Rod.

    Hi Spokeshave,

Congrats on that purchase. What a fabulous bit of kit. You can also get the accessories on ebay.co.uk where they use 240V! I've looked at the kit a number of times thinking if I had it, along with my bigger table mounted Makita, I would never need anything else! Not sure about the prices, but worth a look. I have bought heaps of stuff from the US, Canada and the UK with no problems. I'm close enough to have a look if you get all the bits? Do you attend the club in Wodonga?

Spokeshave ive just purchased the plunge base and their flash micro adjustable side fence from sydney tools. the prices at just tools is ridiculous, their making a killing.

From memory the plunge base was 65-70 bucks and the side fence about 30 bucks.

They are great to deal with and have fast delivery, im in Brissy.

    check them out.

David, had a quick look on the UK ebay site and after conversion alot of the individually sold accessories end up costing close to the locally bought stuff. There is a kit sold here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Makita-RT0...item2a3e72f869 but although the pics contain all the extras there is nothing else mentioned to say they are included.

I haven't attended any of the local clubs purely through lack of time. With a young family and full time work I just don't have the time to dedicate to any sort of club membership but it would be something I would consider when things calm down a bit and spare time increases.

That is a pretty good price for the plunge base https://sydneytools.com.au/by-brand/...l_attachments/ but some of the other accessories are comparable in price. Cant see the micro-adjustable side fence you mentioned any where though (are you talking about the straight guide attachment #195563-0 ??) but would be interested in one.

At this stage i think the plunge base would be the most useful (and a decent straight guide), so i think i may just purchase one here and be done with it.

Thanks for all your help and i'll let you know how i go.

    Steven.

I know I did a review of this tool kit that I purchased from the ToolShop in the UK. I note it costs $335 as a complete kit just as I purchased it about 3 years ago. They post to Aust and you only need to change the plug when it arrives. Comes with all the changeable bases and a nice bag to put it all in.

    Thanks SB.

Had a look at your review and at the ToolStop website and must say, it's very tempting.

Food for thought that's for sure....

Just to be clear, if I get the 240volt UK version, is it just a matter of changing plugs? Nothing else?

Can you remember how much shipping was?

    Thanks.

    Steven.

Just change the plug, no more to do. I don't remember the shipping charge, I just wanted it and I could not get one in Australia at the time, I think from memory it was about $50. If I had my time again, I would look at the DeWalt equivalent as it has LED lights on the base.
