    Default Mini router advice

    Hi all,
The wood work gods are on the war path at my place. First it was my trusty old circular saw now its my mini router.

Some years back, too many to recall, I purchased a ozito 1/4" mini plunge router. 850W 6.35mm (1/4") OZITO PRR-850 Plunge Router - Bunnings Warehouse Bunnings still have a similar model. It was cheap from the get go but filled in a niche when I didnt want to unbolt my Hitachi thumper from under the triton router table.

I mostly use it for quick, lite routing and engraving by hand n such.
The speed controller died a while back, I bypassed it.
But now its got an awfull vibration which I tracked down to the main bearing. Replace the bearing? well its the cast alloy housing that the bearing sits in thats not much chop. The outer bearing surface rocks n rolls inside it.

Anyway I went looking to see what else was available and surprised to see not much in this size ..or am i looking in the wrong places?.. maybe they have a special name.

I liked this one because it could be detached from the plunger leaving a nice circular collar which I used to mount it to jigs.

Knowing its shortcomings (which I doubt they have addressed) Id rather get soemthing a little better quality

Thanks Ian Ill try n track down that mag.

I have had a quick look and most trimmers dont allow the option of a plunge attachment.
Looking at the unit I have its as if they got a trimmer or even a die grinder and added the ability to use it as a standard router. There does not seem to be too many of these on the market. Closest I have found is the dewalt DWP611pk unfortunately very elusive to find here in oz ;(

    I shall keep looking

    Compact Routers:
    DWP611pk (Porter-Cable assimilation)
    Triton JOF001

    Also came across:
Metabo FME 737.. die grinder which looks like it would plug into the old base.(42mm collar)
Metabo OFE 738 their grinder in their base.
pricey and hard to find here in oz ;(

Hitachi KM12VC only in 120v US tho I think or M12VC
Bosch Die Grinder. #GGS27C (43mm collar)
Makita 6mm Die Grinder #GD0602 (single speed) (collar size unknown)

    Update on ozito.
I pulled it apart (easy enough no special tools required) and replaced the bearing and loctite it in place. So far its much better than it was. Still a little vibration. Not sure how long the loctite will hold the bearing in place for tho.

I have the large heavy Triton router.
I have also recently purchased a lighter quarter inch router for hand-held use.
Bosche POF 1200 AE (Bosche green DIY). Have only had a test run at this stage, and I am happy with it.
Available from Mitre 10 stores $129..

    Thanks Jim,
so far the old ozito is still going , in fact its been much better since i pulled it apart. I made up a guide for it to use on templates. wow im lovin this small light hand held router work. lots of fun envraving things

Ill take a look at the bosch. Sooner or later my old ozito will die and I really dont like the look of its newer model as a replacement.

I don't want to mislead you, the Bosch will be quite a bit heavier than your Ozito.
I thought I would let you know about the Bosch, because I noted that your list of machines under consideration included Triton JOF001.
The Bosch weighs 3.4Kg and the Triton JOF001 weighs 4.3Kg.
It is good that your repair job is holding, you may not have to replace for a while.

I bought one the old Ozito's, it has taken quite a bit of punishment, I find it really useful because of its light weight to use with my dovetail jig
