Opinions on the Carba-Tec Cast Iron Top Router?
Hi All,
I've recently been contemplating making my own router table (to replace my old sagging aluminium one) but noticed that this one is on special. Does anyone have this table? Is it value for money or would I soon be thinking "#$^%! I wish I'd spent some more!". There seems to be a several hundred dollars gap between this table and the other available tables. Is spending those extra few hundred $s worth it?
Cheers, Pete

Yep, got one at work fo the kids to use. It's not a bad table, I'll list the things I've found over the last few months
- The arms that hold the top up when changing bits do not 'drop' onto the pins when you lift the table. Considering the weight of the top is is a pain.
- The safety key in the switch is too fiddly for me so we glued it in.
- The threaded holes in the top had a fine burr on the edge which we only discovered after we passed a sanded coffee table top over it. Guess what happened??
- The mounting of the router was straight forward and we have had no issues with that at all
- The base is stable and the working height suits almost everyone.
- The fence isn't bad, but not fantastic. Each side is adjustable to suit different diameter router bits and the extraction is ok.
In all it's pretty good for the price. I think a few small changes would make it fairly good ie enclosing the base (for sound and dust) and we want to put a Triton router in it when the budget allows.Have a nice day - Cheers

Hi Pete, got one of these as well and like WB says it needs some tweaking as I found similar issues with it.
There is a very another table available similar in appearance and probably out of the same factory which has a sliding top very handy if cutting profiles etc and one that I would have preferred over this but had'nt been aware of.
In the main it's a solid and handy R/table.

Thanks guys, appreciate your help.
Still not sure which way I'll go . I'll see if I can gather up some inspiration (and some time) this weekend to get started on making one. Otherwise I might be off to Carbatec next weekend .
Cheers, Pete

i've been looking at these things too.
Leda Machinery Catalogue
Both these guys (Leda & Carbie) seem to have alot of the same gear. pricing is a bit up and down. I'm also torn on what to get. I've been kicking around the idea of just making my own but for 300 bucks....*shrugs* Can't really go wrong on the made in china stuff can ya?!?
