Opinions requested - decidated table or TSC-10HB wing
Good evening kids
I'm having a minor conundrum...do I want to build a dedicated router table/cabinet (with a Kreg plate) or do I want to add the router wing back onto my TSC-10HB cabinet saw.
Both will probably cost around the same amount all up (the wing and custom support frame verus timber/metal/plate/switches etc for an all new cabinet) but I'm not entirely sure about which would be the better option in terms of performance and longevity, so I'm asking y'all who have experienced one or the other (preferably both) which you think might be the better solution.
The positives for the wing are that it will take up less room in an already crowded workshop while also extend my saw bench for easier wide cuts...and being able to make custom rings for it (levelling rings to the top is a super easy job so it's all about the size here)
I'm also slightly concerned about the flatness of the wing once attached (and the drama involved in making it perfect) compared to the ease of tweaking up a wooden top. I did have a router wing once but sold it off to another forumite years ago when I thought I'd never use it
. It unbalanced the saw if I put it on the right side (so I'll need to make a better support for it) but I was also mildly, and probably superstitiously, unconvinced that it was a truly flat surface (compared to, say, a 35mm kitchen bench or couple of sheets of MDF).
Either option will get a custom shop-made fence solution.
If it adds anything to the consideration, I'll be chucking an old TR-12 (heavy mongrel) on whatever I finally decide on.
I'm kind of swinging towards the router wing for the saw, but that's mostly a spacial choice.
Can anyone convince me otherwise?

I don't have room and neither am I a big router user so I opted for a router wing and I also just use a fence that is piggy backed onto the TS fence.
However, if I had the room I would probably like to have a dedicated router table.
A couple of issues I have noticed
Some saws have a TS blade adjustment wheel on the router wing side of the cabinet which can interfere with the router.
Because you need dust collection for a TS you save on ducting and junctions compared to a dedicated router table.
Above table collection can use the same connection as the TS blade guard. I just unplug the 4" flexy connected to the TS blade guard and connect it to the router fence. That work moderately well.
Under bench dust control is probably easier to setup with a dedicated router table. I've been working on my under table router dust problem on-off for a year and think I have some sort of solution. I have Y connection that hooks up to the underside of the TS while the other branch connects to the underside of the router, but I still need to build a cabinet around the router. This solution does not work for a full cabinet TS
Other than those issues I am happy enough with the router wing. Like I said I don't use it that much

Based on my experience I would build a dedicated router top, instead of the Triton table I used, and put it between the fence extensions rather then the router wing. That way you will have the best of both worlds, compact space and a good router table and the TS fence can be used with adaptations for the router.

I had a similar problem of what to do for a router table. In the end I built an extension table at the back of the saw which folds up against the saw when not required. It also acts as an outfeed table for longer cuts.

Thanks for the input chaps
It's helped.
I hadn't considered under table dust collection so I think by the time I built a frame to support an extension wing and dust collection box I might as well spend just a little more and do a good stand alone table that could have some additional storage space in it.
It would be make it even tighter in the shed but at the same time hopefully easier/more important to keep the walkway and work areas clean and accessible. A decent routing station is the last thing I really need in there to complete my setup, so it would be worth the effort.
I better get designing now I suppose
