Raised panel sets
Hi, can anyone help me please. I'm thinking of buying the CMT raised panel set with back cutter from Carba-tec. Has anyone used these? are they easy to use? & are they good value for money?
I will be using wood of 20mm thick, finished size
The last ones I used, was about 15yrs ago, & there was a lot of fiddling, trying to set them up with shims. These seem a lot easier to use.
Thanks

I own this CMT set with the back cutter. But because I decided to go with 16mm thick panels in a 21mm thick frame (the door is then recessed on the inside to not be too heavy), I removed the back cutter as it is not needed. This is a high quality set and I have done many doors as well as drawer fronts with the panel raising bit. Still as sharp as the day it was purchased. I use it with my Triton 3hp router on a triton router table with an MDF top (9mm thick with 95mm hole) to accommodate the large panel raising cutter. Will dig up some pics and post.
Hope this helps.

Les

May thanks Les for the info, yes it does help. One thing I never thought to check until you mentioned it, was the hole in the router table. I have a heavy duty moulded plastic insert I bought from Carba-Tec, I think it should do the job. I was going to buy the Hitachi M12SA2 single speed router, but thanks to this forum, I took advice & bought the Hitachi M12V2 varible speed, I think I made the right choice. Yes post your pictures, i'm always intersted in what everyone else is doing, plus i'm a nosey Old sod. Thanks again Les

Ron, the Panel raising cutter has a diameter of 89mm. Not many inserts will accommodate this size. I have attache 2 pics with the setup for raising the panels. I set the height and then take 5 passes as can be seen on the lines on the MDF false table. No need to use this false table when using the other 2 cutters for making the rails and stiles.

Thanks Les, still haven't got round to checking the insert yet, but with your set up, at least I know there is another alternative. Iv'e sent Carba-Tec 2 Emails regarding the cutters & postage to Thailand, still waiting for a reply. One day I hope I can contribute to the forum, instead of always asking questions.

Ron
