Anybody replaced bearings in a Bosch GOF1600CE???
I need to replace the bearings in my Bosch 1600CE router but can't get the 'spindle nut' off the shaft to make it happen. Been Googling my socks off but can't find anything other than a guy that had problems with his working loose - if only!!!! We made a puller specifically for the job but it still wouldn't budge - I don't think it is just pressed on - seems like it is rotated to lock on to the shaft somehow so I've tried giving it a few taps in either direction with no success either. The shaft has two flats for use with a spanner so if I can't get the ring off intact I'll have to cut it off and revert to using two spanners but cutting it off is going to be hairy so I'd rather remove it the right way. Any suggestions???

It looks to be threaded, perhaps a left hand thread?

Already tried turning it both directions with as much force as I was game - nothing to get hold of to turn against is the main problem there . I had the shaft held in the lathe chuck with a piece of PVC pipe to protect the thread while I tried turning the ring but figured if it was that easy, it should have come undone while fitting/removing a router bit at some point.

You've probably looked at the replies at the bottom of this YT video, but just in case - Bosch GOF 1600 CE Shaft Collet Problem - YouTube
Casting around online it would appear that you're not the first to have this problem. Have a look at this YT video at about the 4:30 mark where the guy undoes that collar nut by hand - Como concertar tupia Bosch GOF1600 - YouTubeLast edited by aldav; 30th September 2022 at 04:57 PM. Had a win!
Well that was an interesting exercise!!! Tried undoing the spindle-nut by heavily tightening a bit in the collet which turns the nut in the correct direction but it still needed a jolt from a pin punch to get it moving - the nut spun off easily after a really good tap. The small bearing on the other end proved to be a problem to remove but I got there eventually. SO GLAD I didn't go ahead and cut the spindle-nut off (Plan B) as the main bearing turns out to be only a slip fit on the shaft and the system requires the spindle-nut to lock it all together. Only found this out after reassembling the whole thing without the nut so I could just use a spanner to change bits. The shaft was spinning inside the bearing so I pulled it all apart AGAIN! and locked the nut on - hope it's tight enough or it's going to come undone the first time I install a bit and I'll have to do it all again .
Thanks again for the help guys
