Default Small router on a small budget

    Hi all,

I'm in need of a small plunge router for the odd job here and there, mostly for the things I can't do with my hand tools . Any recommendations for routers under the $150 mark? I'm not entirely up to speed on the power tools side of things...

I also saw at one of the local Bunnies that there was an ex-display ozito (I think) for $30, but was missing the depth stop and adjustment. Is it worth getting parts for or fitting my own, or should I just go for something that actually has everything on it?

    Thanks

I bought a Bosch POF 1200 AE plunge router for hand-held use.
I have found it to be excellent.
Being a smaller router it has only 1/4" collet.
Check out the details at the Bosch DIY website.
Available from Mitre 10 stores for $129.

Depends on what your doing with it. If it's got the collet spanner and you can get by as is it's got to be worth $30.

My first router was an ozito. Comprehensive kit for $55. It allowed me to figure out I would use it often enough to justify buying a good one. I now have 2 tritons aswell. Once I used the tritons I realised how ordinary the ozito is, usual cheap tool issues, but it gets the job done.

If you near a trade tools direct their house brand are often good quality.

Might be bigger than you want but on the money. I haven't examined or used it but might be worth a look.

Aldi have one on sale atm, 1200W - 5/16" and 1/4".

I have one of these and use it as my "go to" hand held router, has never let me down.

I know a lot of people bag Aldi tools, but I can't fault this one.

Actually 8mm (5/16) and 1/4inch. Reasonable tool, but sales period ended Friday( might be stock in some stores but not my local) and I wasn't sure if OP had access to a nearby Aldi. The router table listed with it is not great, not flat, blow moulded plastic fence with buckles etc. Remote switch and other add ons OK and may be transferable to a better table though, and would cost as much as the table to buy individually.

Sorry slip of the finger! Haven't seen too many 5/8" capacity 1200W routers around

The one I bought a few years ago is actually a 1/2", still 1200W though.

They still had stock in Bendigo yesterday.
