    Default router lifts

Hey all, I see router lifts are very popular in the USA, and the seem like a great idea, only probelm is a large proportion of their routers are smooth body, non plunge. I dont think there is a single router like this for sale in Australia? I have seen the Unilift and asked in that thread, but is there any other brand of router lift that will mount up a plunge router. I have a Maffel plunge router, similar to the same vintage Festo 2000w router, I even think some parts are shared....

    cheers

I believe this one will allow for a plunge router to be mounted onto it. You just screw the base to its mounting plate. I think it is a copy of the old jessem lift.

I also think Graeme from woodwork supplies might have uni lifts available still.

Default Letting my router system go soon.

I am in the process of updating my router setup and am at the point where I need to decide what sort of table insert to buy. I do have a big Triton router presently set up in a Triton router table. What I will be doing is probably ditching the Triton table with all its attachments and building a new system with the Triton router as the basis. This was where I was confused about whether I needed a router lift considering the Triton has a pretty good bit changing facility built in.
The rest of the system will be all built around the Incra LS positioner and Wonder Fence system with a table top from Professional Wood workers supplies. The base/table I will build myself.
I will be posting soon about also letting go of my entire Gifkins dovetail and box jointing system which has mostly had bugger all use, but I'll get into this in more detail later on.

    Cheers,
    Bob

I am currently building a new router table to replace my Triton one also. I bought the Kreg insert plate with the kreg levelers also. I have just perfected after a few attempts of making the hole in my top for the insert to fit in. Combined with the TRA001 lifting functionality plus draws to keep everything together it should be a fully functional rock solid table. Ill be posting a WIP shortly in another section. The TRA001 combined with the new collet system when you consider total cost is great value for money.

    Default Moving on.

I've had my Triton router table for quite a while now. I bought it to go with the original Triton workstation which I had fitted a 9 1/4" circular saw. The workstation is now fitted with the sliding router attachment where I can use it purely for doing trenches and grooves. It has a Makita router in it. What I loved about the dedicated Triton router table was its built in measuring system. This was a facility that I've not found in many of the production router tables, but was an invaluable aid in virtually everything I did on that table. I am now in the position to be able to update my tools to the best I can afford. I will admit I am lucky to have as many tools and machines that I do. Many of these came into my possession from my father, grandfather and father-in-law, all of whom are now deceased. I would give up everything to have them back again. My mother-in-law passed away only this week, but at 95, she had a very long and happy life. Anyhow, having gone through all the Incra you tube videos, I decided to get their 17" LS Positioner system and having a good friend in the US, was going to get him to buy it there and ship it to me, obviously saving quite a bit along the way. During my searches though, I ended up at an Aussie site called the "Frogpond" (I think), and their price was considerably cheaper than other dedicated wood working sites here, plus they offered free shipping! So when I have everything in hand I will then 'retire' my old trusty Triton bench where hopefully someone else can enjoy it as much as I have over the years. Cheers, Bob

I'm sure someone would snap up your triton gear quickly. Perfect for someone starting out in woodworking like I did.

Ahh do you mean fish pond? Great website. Wasn't aware thry resell incra stuff. I'll have to check that out. Yeah until another more value for money router lift setup arrives on market I'm happy with the triton TRA 001

Default A Router Lift for Plunge Routers

The US style of router lift seem suited to cylinder style router assemblies which are uncommon here. The router lift offered here Woodman RT6 Router Lift Plate - Major Woodworking Equipment seems that it accepts inverted plunge routers. You may need to add an extension collet to be able to get convenient access above the table for changine bits.

Here's an image of the underside that would be mounted in your table.
