I've got two routers. A big triton mounted in a woodpeckers router table. It works great, I can adjust the bit above the table and it is rock solid. There is no reason I know of that you have to use a triton on a triton router table. I use it with a Gifkins jig.

I also have a festool 1400 to use freehand and with my leigh dovetail jig. It also works well, though I do prefer the triton. I've had a few troubles locking the festool router in place - the bit has shifted and caused me some problems. But the soft start is magic.

When freehand routing templates, do standard guide bushing kits fit the Triton?

Thanks for all the replies guys. Have purchased the Kreg insert plate predrilled for the Triton off Amazon ( about $80 with postage) as I could not find the pre-drilled one in Australia.

Am going to make a small table with some melamine the insert and a fence for now.

Will buy the Triton TRA001 shortly.

Any out of table work I will use the Ryobi for now. I have not really got into edge banding, or template routing, but definitely am keen to learn.

The Triton has a dedicated set of template guides that come in a kit with a mounting plate that fits between the alloy base and plastic rub ring. Part of the kit is an adaptor for Porter Cable style (the more common US format). Might seem redundant at first glance, i.e if I have the Triton set why would I want others, but the standard guides for Leigh and other jigs etc also fit then without needing dedicated Leigh adaptor or special guides, and the Triton ones only come in imperial sizes to the best of my knowledge, whereas you can find (with dificulty) metric PC style guides should you need them.

Alternatively, if you get the Triton very well centred on the Kreg plate, the Kreg filler insert with the smallest hole is rebated to take PC style guides. I did suggest a few posts ago that once you get the Triton set up in the plate properly, leave it mounted and use the the plate as a oversize router base. That way, you can have PC style guides fitted directly to the plate (base).

If you get into edging and need to trim the edging with a router, the easiest way is to run the panel standing on edge accross the router with a high fence for support. Google Router Table edge trimming for videos etc or send me a PM with a direct email ad and I will send you a PDF explaining the technique.

    Hope this helps.

I purchased mine (Kreg plate pre drilled for Triton)a couple of weeks ago from Carba-tec Brisbane $65.00. For some reason it was $15.00 cheaper than the blank plate I didn't question it.

    Rod,

I checked the Carbatec website but could only see the normal plate. That is a shame to find out.

    Hi Hellofellow,
I didn't see it on their web site either I was in the Brisbane store looking at the blank plates(and many other things) and there it was hanging next to them and as I said $15-$20 dollars cheaper than the blank I couldn't believe my luck it had a couple of different length mounting screws and the 3 centre disk's starting pin and removal tool in the pack, I am working on a table for it at the moment.
    Regards Rod.

The original Elu router model MOF177E was regarded as the state of the art in "Industrial" routers.

Now, some 35 years later, it's contemporary clones from DeWalt (DW625), CMT and Trend (T11) still are! I believe that CMT are now actually marketing the Triton design now instead of the ELU.

My point is that hundreds of thousands (possibly even millions) of tradesman the world over are still using this 35 year old design simply because it's a superior tool. Tradies depend on their tools for their livelihood, in terms of both reliability and in it's ability to perform the required task simply, efficiently and reliably. I know of no other example of this form of ubiquity in a power tool.

Sure, it has its faults: sticky plunge is one of the more obvious ones. This is easily resolved with judicious use of powdered graphite dry-lube (shavings from a carpenter's pencil).

It also has in parallel the world's largest and most comprehensive range of OEM and aftermarket accessories. Just about each and every aftermarket accessory made by ANY manufacturer the world over will have been designed with this family of routers in mind.

So, from Triton benches to Kreg, CMT or just about any other router table ever made, dovetail jigs to mortice jigs, Woodrats to Router Bosses, router lathes to postform counter jigs all have been designed and manufactured to perform seamlessly with the Elu/DeWalt family.

Why would you wish to look elsewhere?
