Remove the plunge spring while you are there, it'll make it much easier to adjust.
My RT is just a 3mm steel plate(nick named the BBQ)about 700mm square, I cut the hole out to the same size as the hole in the router base, then cut 2 3mm mdf rings to fill the hole.....................................................................

Router
Had a look at top, have been searching for a Base plate and the idea of just cutting it into the table makes life so much easier, didn't really want to buy a base plate for over $100, when I will only be using it very sparingly. Also like the idea of using a piece of 1/4" steel plate, Confusing, Ali, Phenolic, too much for mwah.
