Default Router planer/Router Sled in Ballarat area?

Just wondering if anyone in the Ballarat area has a Router Sled/Router Planer?

I have a project (the size of the top of a guitar) thats got multiple levels, so I cannot run it through my thicknesser - yet I've screwed up and need to level it as prefect as possible to laminate a new section of timber on top.

I could hand plane it, but my hand planing is not quite to par with the level of flat I need for the lamination.

I plan on building one, but I simply don't have the funds at the moment to purchased the bearings/rails etc needed.

    Cheers

    Allan

Have you a drill press? SOunds like a job for Safe-T-Planer
The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

Yes, one of those would probably work (I've never used one) however I don't have disposable funds right now...

Check out the local Woodworking Group as someone there might be able to help you.
Their contact details were given on here just a short while ago
I believe you might have posted in the thread that contained the details

If you have a router, fit two 600mm 12mm ( or whatever size it takes) steel rails through the base where the fence goes, then fit the ends of these rails to an upright bookend pieces of timber to make a router sled that is very stable and slides around on your workbench.

You then fit a straight router bit to it, position it over the timber you want to level, and move it around to flatten the timber ( the timber must be fixed in position so it doesn't move.

Have a look at Template Tom's web site to see it in action, from memory.

Works really well in smoothing rough timber

I was just browsing around on here and noticed a link to a post which I put up a short while back. As a matter of interest I ended up dumping my sled and building a version of that sled I put up from "youtube". I am rather happy with it, pretty much finished it off today. However I only had at a 19mm straight bit. I've ordered a 31mm mortise and planing bit from Carbatec which hopefully will be here in the next couple of days. It being the only router bit of that dimension I can find anywhere that will fit into a 1/4" router. So I am eagerly awaiting its arrival.

I've also adapted a sanding system to my idea. Still needs a bit of fine tuning and a couple of alterations, will work on this. I must say a piece of rough sawn red mahogany I worked on today has come up brilliant.

I will put some photos on here as soon as I have it all finished,

    Paul

Though I should update this thread.

I didn't go to too much extravagance on this one as it's something I'll probbly only ever use once, but I threw together this makeshift sled with some mdf scraps.

Got the job done. Thanks to anyone who replied.
