    My spindle moulder manual recommends a cutting speed of between 40 and 75 meters per second. I suspect the optimal cutter speed for routers is in the same ball park.

    V = C * rpm = Pi * D * rpm

    V = surface tangential velocity
    C = circumference of cylinder
    D = diameter of cylinder
    rpm = rotations per minute
    Pi = 3.14

    V (m/s) = Pi * D (m) * (rpm/60)

    eg. 125mm diameter cutter at 8000rpm

    Pi * 0.125 * (8000/60)
    = 52.36m/s
