Cutting Aluminium Components
Hi,
I have a series of templates for some art work components that I wish to transfer to aluminium plate using my router. Looking at cutting in 4 to 6 mm aluminium plate.
Anyone got any suggestions for a router bit that would be suitable? Thinking of a bit in 1/2" shank preferably with a bearing guide.
Others have suggested a spiral up or down cuttting bit. But I have not been able to find one with a bearing guide.
Otherwise anyone got any other ideas for following the templates?
Cheers Silas

I have found routing aluminium with small diameter bits to be dangerous. A larger diameter takes a shallower cut with less chance of grab.
Try a CMT 801.817.11B
Must use a full face shield.

I recommend using hard wax as a lubricant, rub all over area that will be cut. That way you can also use the smaller bits.
