Bit of Tec Info. Those USB Micro B sockets (PCB Mount) that Jaycar have, they fit the iGaging DRO slides. However if you have ever tried to solder one of these Surface mount sockets to a PCB then you'll know how tiny these are. I wanted to use these so that we don't need to make any mods to the DRO units, just plug and play, I managed to solder 4 hair like wires to each pin using a huge LED lit Desk Magnifier to see them, then fitted them to a standard piece of Vero board.
I plugged one DRO scale into the Micro and one into it's own head unit, locked the Slides together and slid them as one. My Micro code and 7" Screen matches the supplied DRO Head to within .01 mm - that's down to not been able to mechanically lock the two slides together perfectly. Having done that I finished the Calibrate screen, well almost, it needs the DRO positions to be displayed in real time so the result of the calibrate adjustment can be seen.
BTW you can get a small adaptor for USB Micro B to the standard old BIG USB Plug, so the old USB socket could be used and that it a cinch to solder, this could be an option for experimenting with the DRO units and not having to open them or mod them in any way. And no soldering the impossible to fit where it ain't meant to fit.
So now I'm ready to start setting up a Stepper, DRO scale and Screw and bearing nut to the Fence. The Spindle / Router Drive will be the almost the same mechanically and code wise. Once the programming code is written for that it's only the mechanical work and modifying the RT that's left.(1) Our small workshop layout __ (2) Bandsaw circle cutting jig __ (3) Spindle sander modifications __ (4) Dust Sensor

The Calibrate screen. The last digit is switching between both displays so it's likely 0.005 mm difference, as I mentioned above, the two scale slides are not quite locked together mechanically otherwise they would be the same reading.

I’m over trying to solder tiny connectors. I use these - their convenient and cheap.

Thanks Peter, that's the board I mentioned in an earlier post, I knew I'd seen them somewhere. I looked through everything at my local Jaycar and they had none and I didn't want to wait for an order so I made two the hard way, only cost me $4.50 so nothing lost. I'll find them and order a few now for the final build.

I buy mine from Core Electronics - $2.95 each plus $3 postage.

I'd recommend Core Electronics as well, placed a ton of orders with them and their service is excellent. Noticed a misprint on some stepper specs the other day so I sent them an email and they gave me a $20 voucher for the trouble.

Hi Erick, just finishing the Micro code while I await some parts to get a bit of hardware running, like the Router Lift and Fence drive with Stepper motors, associated rail bearing and bearing screw drive. In around about a week I hope to have enough to start coding the fun part of integrating the Scale Slide position data with the Stepper motor drive for any position within the accuracy of the Digital Scale and the mechanical tolerances in the Stepper drive and Router Table installation.
