    Default GMC router and warranty

Hi .. a few weeks back I purchased a 1550 w GMC router ( the gold one) it has been used a few times and after each time the two screws that holds the gizmo that locks the shaft for changing the cutting heads has worked free.. so I have been tighten them with a Philip's screw driver.. now it looks like the gold coloured metal casting is very soft and the screws no longer hold..I phoned GMC and was told get Bunning to have a look at it ..Bunnings say I have over tightened the screws ( this is not the case)it may not be covered by the warranty.. Col

PS for the price GMC tools are beaut..and would still buy 'em

PPS..when phoning GMC the service is A1 .

Ive got the same router, Haven't got that problem but when i depress the trigger it wont stay on with the locking latch, have to hold it tight in all the time, Using it to much at the moment so haven't had the chance to take it back. Only had it for 6 mths so good to know they are good to deal with.

Take it to a different Bunnings- I have very little faith in their engineering knowledge to be able to make an assessment of anything.

Bugger. I have 6 Bunnings within 20 minutes of my place. Why are there so many Bunnings around where I live? I don't spend THAT much there do I???

6 Bunnings.. not sure if that's a good thing LOL....Bunnings sure have come a long way since the Bunning brothers purchase a saw mill in Denmark that's the small west Australian town not the country.. but i think you must thank Westfarmers for all the growth col

We recently got GMC router table for my work, the yable I find a bit , well crap I guess is the best description I can come up with. Just weak plstic fence and not squared up very well.
But the router flys along is quite handy to work with. Although the screw depth gauge moves too esily and has no lock.. But for the price, its pretty good so far.

I've never had any problem returning GMC products, either for an exchange, or a refund.

In fact, twice I've gotten a replacement item, and some money back, as the newer model was selling for less than the older model I had purchased.

If its under the 2 years, it always has seemed to me to be a "no questions asked" approach.

Maybe you just got someone on a "bad day".

    Cheers...

Take it back on a different day and see a different person, perhaps leave it in the car for each visit until you get the next person.

If they will not take it back ask them to return it to GMC as you do not feel that they are qualified to identify the fault as your own making. I am sure when they ring GMC they will simply tell them to give you a newie.

I returned my GMC router 3 times in the warranty period, I use it rarely now as I have a Hitachi and it puts the build quality of the GMC to shame, especially the plunge locking mechanism. But for the price you cant really complain.

dont know if you have managed to get a replacement yet but it sounds like it should be returned. If you have your receipt ring GMC and they will do a service request for you (or you can do online at www.gmcompany.com.au) The screws should tighten and sounds like the threads on them may not have been right to start with.

    Hope this helps,

Default Yas get what ya pay for

    Dear Mr Wombat

I think I may be able to offer an opinion.
We live in a world of finite resorces, if we purchase sub-standard products from high volume retailers ........ very soon, that is all, that we will be able to do.
The value of a product is not in the initial purchase price, but in the products intire service life.
After working nine year in a electrical motor rewinding shop ...... I can honestly say ....... pay the money, buy something with a German trade mark, and enjoy the hassle free service.

    Cheers
