    Default Router table upgrade

Some time ago I posted some photos of a router table I made. Since then I upgraded the system with an INCRA LS25, unilift, and new router. This meant I had to extend the table. With the help of Michael Connor we made a long table top from 2 bits of 19mm ply laminated and screwed together. Then I added another cabinet to the existing one and installed a bigger dust extraction port. The new set up retains the useful features of the old and gives me more storage space. The whole caboose is on wheels as my workshop space is limited. The table top has remained true so I am very happy with it.

Photo 1. The original table with a Timbecon top and aluminium plate (currently top and plate are for sale).

Photo 2. extended table top with INCRA set up.

Photo 3. storage feature of the original is retained.

    Photo 4. larger dust extraction.

Photo 5. Lift up feature for access to router and lift.

Photo 6. An extra cuboard and drawer in the extension.

    Regards,

    Barrie

Do you notice the wonderfence sucking more of the dust than the under table collection or the other way around?

The wonder fence sucks a lot of dust and the under the table extractor leaves only what you can see in the third photo. There is a baffle at the back of the cabinet that stops about 30mm from the bottom and is about 80 odd mm from the back, so there is a bit of a venturi effect. I just brush out the base of the cabinet every now and then but there is never much of a build up. It seems to work ok and I dont have a dust problem with it.

    Hope that answers your question.

    Cheers

It looks like a piece of furniture for the games room.

Great design Barrie, very practical. The dust extraction is great and the lift top makes all the accessing easier

Very compact and looks practical for a small shed.

The table looks good and well thought out.

Is the left hand "vertical" drawer from the original cabinet set up the same as the right hand? Also is access to that right hand drawer from both sides or just inside?

    Hi Paul,

Both drawers are mirror images, just "boxes" that slide in and out. Access is from the inside. The central cabinet door that encloses the router is shut for the most part, and the router bits are easily accesssed when the drawer is pulled out.

    Cheers

Thamks for that. I thought it was probably the case, but despite enlarging the pics I could not definitely tell.

I have had the aluminium router plate and inserts for over two years now with the intention of building a cabinet along the lines of yours, but probably not quite as smart.

My original inspiration came from Dizzy's website, but I think it is no more as he retired from ill health.

Having seen yours though, I want one!

    Hi Paul,

I am not sure about the smart bit, its a pretty simple construct, just a couple of cabinets divided up, sliding drawers and a simple top. The details not shown are the dust extraction which is just plumbers pipe inside (a couple of bends from the back of the first cabinet to the outside). The top is just hinged at the rear by a couple of bolts thru two rails on the underside of the table. Stick on rubber strips supply sufficient sealing between base and top. You could knock it together in a weekend and its simple enough that you could add your own variations. Its a practical unit and I am sure you would be happy with something similar.

    Good luck with the project.

    Cheers

Nice table, all you need now, is some form of digital readout. The enclosed router should be a lot quieter.

Thanks for the kind words, Zelk. There is a digital height readout attached to the unilift, seen on the right of the table top. Very handy when adjusting height for the INCRA gear and repeatability.
