Router Tear Out On White Beech End Grain
Wanting to get some suggestions for a friend on how to prevent a feather edge tear-out on the end grain of White Beech:
The thoughts I have are:
1. Sharpen Router Bit
2. Make the cut in two passes.
Any other suggestions?

Use a backing board?
Using a marking knife to scribe a line?
If I'm doing a roundover (or similar) around the board I do the two sides running with the grain first which removes the material that will chip out when doing the end grain.

If its a straight sided cut like a rebate or dado, then carefully knife cut the shape - use a couple of light passes rather than trying to carve a trench in one go, its much easier to avoid mistakes (and chopping of a finger if you slip )
If its a 'fancy' shape like an ogee then the usual advice is to cut the end grain first then cut the long grain, which will remove any spelching or other unsightly missing bits.

Meant to say spelch but the auto spellcheck has a mind of it's own.
