    Question Triton Router and Husbands!

Just wondering if I can get some information from Triton users re a Triton Router 2400W 1/2" TRA001.

My husband, God love 'im bought a second hand router table. Well, that was a good buy . Then discovered that the new router he had didn't have a deep enough plunge  to reach when fitted to the table. It is only a cheapie but still!!!!!--new. Supposed to the job he assurred me when he bought it.

So---we bouight an extension so he could use the router with the table but when he uses the extension the wobble is just so horrendous that he can't use the router.

It seems that perhaps the only answer is to buy a better router but since we are pensioners that is a bit hard.

Now on Ebay there is a Triton as described above at the moment for $220 approx. I need to know

    A. does anyone have one and your reccommedations about it

    B. does it indeed have a plunge length that will work with the router table?

I don't want more good money going down the drain but I want my husband to be able to do something in that shed of his.

    Thank you

    Jennifer

    Short answer,

The Triton routers are fantastic and worth the money!!!

The plunge depth is dependant on the thickness of the table top that the router is bolted to. But I know that on the triton router table the router will rise as much as you want (thats why you can do bit changes above the table).

The last school that I was at had just bought 3 new Tritons to replace the Makitas they had and everyone in the Manual Arts Dept was rapt over the performance and ease of use.
Have a nice day - Cheers

The other router isn't a total write-off - it is good to have a table-mounted one and another for handheld work.

BTW - The Triton router was/is specifically designed for table mounting.

    Hi Jennifer

What extension are you using. If its an extreme extension I would suggest it has not been fitted correctly.

He has bought a Torquata Cottet Extension from Timbecon. It was fitted correctly because my husband is quite used to working with machinery and tools etc as he was a cabinet maker before retirement.

That sounds bad. Was he running the router at full speed? If so that could be his problem. Get him to slow it down and work slowly upwards. You can tell by the sound if it is in trouble. If it does not work at any speed then you definitely need a new router.

Yes I have one and it is pretty good as a table router.

This depends on the thickness of the router table. I have a thickish cast iron table and I'm finding I still occasionally have to use the extender on the Triton. I only feel comfortable using the extender below 3/4 of its max speed.

    Hi there Jennifer
The triton is a beauty honestly he will love it... in a machine preferably but hand held its also a ripper of a thing to use...ahem... can you provide a link to the ebay sale?

The router table is a worry though... can you post a pic or describe it a bit better these blokes may well know the table you got him and let you know their experiences of it... it may well have been cheep but there may have been a damned good reason for that cheep price! you may well have paid too high a price for a peice of junk and therefore it was not cheep but expensive! you dont want that eh?

Actually if you look around the forum you will find theres several good threads of people making their own router tables maybe you should get the ol man the new to you triton and he can make one? rather than buyin possibly another bung one? or even more bits an peices in the hope it fixes what may well be a particular problem with that table?

    Just a few ideas
    Cheers!

Sorry, no. Toowoomba is the sort of place that you can go down town for a few hours and not see anybody that you know
