Routing An awkard shape for a begginer!
Hey there everyone, firstly great forum you have here been a browser for a while but thought i should sign up .
I'm having a go at my first jukebox and am having trouble getting my head around a problem. What im trying to do is cut this image out below thats in red. So my plan is to have the round and straight edge cut into the front of my mdf for the speaker grill to stick out a little.
To be completely honest i don't have clue on how to tackle this, i was planning on using a circle router jig but when i noticed that it was a silly shape i thought that may have thrown that out the window. So yeah any help would be greatly appreciated on how you would think would be the best way to go about this. If its any help i have a plunge router, jigsaw, circle saw.
Thanks again!

Firstly welcome to the forum.
I have not done this myself, but to my way of thinking you might need to make several different cuts with the router and refine the edge with files.
Clamp a straight edge to the piece and run a plunge router along the that edge to get the first cut, then setup the straight edge for the next cut.
Or you could do the circle cut then finish off to the lines by using files.
Even thou you are in the router forum posting you might want to use a jig saw to cut the profile and you guessed it file away the extra waste.
Lets see what others have to say.
Do post what the results and what you decided on using.

Welcome to the forum, are you 100% sure the hole isnt round?
I would have thought it would still be a simple circle and a fancy beizel (whatever its called) screwed to the speaker box?
Another option might be to use the orginal hole as a template for the new hole, just use a template style router bit with a bearing on top clamp the original on top of your work peice and route away.
good luck

There are several ways of going about this, as has already being suggested.
The other way is to use a templet guide and template. You can make the template using the circle router jig and filling in the straight bits. This would be a several step process to create the template.
For info on using templet guides search this forum for TemplateTom or Harrysin. These members have produced excellent articles on the use of templet guides.Arie.

Thanks alof everyone for your advice and warm welcome's . I think ill go for your idea joez. Ive had a good think about it and have decided to take that bezel and speaker cover off, rout a nice 10inch circle and either re-use the grill or purchase another one. If i was a bit more experienced id have a crack at your suggestions Christos and Breezy. Now just to make a basic circle router jig and ill be able to have a crack. Thanks for the link on templatetom and Harrysin.
Harrysin had a great idea for a rectangle piece but unfortunately that dosnt suit what im after, I have to rout 2 rectangles to fit 15 inch screens so i was thinking of using the jigsaw and rounding the corners with the router! that way. But anyway enough rambling just throwing my thoughts out there. Thanks alot for your help!
