Scheer Router and bits
Hi
Am trying to get some advice about a Scheer HM-16 router which I recently acquired. It had three bits with it that screwed onto the shaft via an internal thread on each bit. I understand that some models had a regular collet attached so it could take plain shafted router bits. Does anyone know of a source of supplies for these machines that is accessible from Oz? Even a manual or instructions would help! The router seems to run well, but I'd like to make it more versatile than it is at present.
Regards
Grant

I just love "Contact us for Price" or POA. Is it code for "you can't afford it" or "if you have to ask the price you are not likely to be able to afford it". I would like an indication even if it was caveated by a date and exchange rate!.

I contacted them for a price on aJet JTAS10XL tablesaw when I was in the market for a saw. No answer to my enquiry, so there doesn't seem much point to putting "contact us for Price" on their website.
A lot of companies are missing real opportunities created by their website, begs the question why they have a website in the first place.

Hi Stromrev,
lucky you, for owning this quality machine!
But like Thomas Jensen already said, i'm afraid you'll have to shop abroad for parts. The HM16 (the latest generation of which is the electronic HM25E with 2500 Watts) has the very sturdy and mechanically stable M16 x 1,5 inside threaded arbour.
Indeed there is a collet available with an appropriate outside thread to directly screw into the arbour. This is a very stable combination, able to withstand very large lateral forces but staying true and precise nonetheless. It is even better than the M12 outside threaded arbour layout of the Elu MOF 11, which already is a tank on its own account.
The collet (type numer SP 318) will set you back 42 Euros without VAT and shipping costs. It comes without the spanner insert, which must be ordered as well. There are 4 insert sizes, for smooth router shaft diameters of 6, 8, 10 and 12 mms. The inserts each cost 17 Euro 50.
You are advised not to use the smaller M10 threaded collet SP320 by means of a thread adapter from M16 to M10. The combination of motor arbour and collet must be as short as possible, with as little in-between-connections as possible. So the M16 threaded collet which immediately fits the arbour's inside thread, is the ticket.
I seem to remember that fellow Woodworkforum member Damienhazo also owns a Scheer HM16. He may have some more leads or part sources for you.
Greetings from Holland!

Oops, sorry, forgot to mention the thread adapter 301, which is probably still mounted on your HM16. Is that correct? I reread your starter entry and you mentioned "outside threaded arbour", but i can't recollect an HM16 ever having had an outside threaded arbour. Only the smaller types like the HM14 or HM9 have an M10 outside thread. The pic shows the adapter part i meant. If it is present, unscrew it and go for the M16 collet. If not or if it is impossible to detach the adapter without destructive force (any hard blows or heating will damage the arbour's ball bearings), go for an alternative fitting collet. The SP 320 has inside M10 thread to fit an outside threaded arbour, and there is also an M12 version.
Success
