Scheppach bench top router - any good ?
Hi. I'm thinking about buying one of these https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/W846# . Has anyone used one and can you tell me if it was any good ?
It would only be used for shaping small objects, so it doesnt need to be large or powerful - in fact I would prefer it was neither. I do need it to be accurate though - so I guess the things that are important to me are that it needs precise vertical adjustment, a solid table and a solid fence. I also need it to be transportable - which at 20kg this one should be.
I also want to know about the noise level.
cheers

I have a very similar machine branded as a sheppach bs52. In fact they look almost identical so there has probably been a model name change.
I haven't been real happy with it to be quite honest. The machine suffers from vibration and the fence system is very difficult, if not impossible to adjust accurately. Most of the accessories are made of cheap plastic and are unusable.
Classic example of "you get what you pay for".
I would recommend you look at spending your money on a quality router and table, which is what I am in the process of doing.
Regards,
Craig.

If you can get your hands on a decent router at a fair price, how about the Kreg portable table at Carbatec. I haven't seen one in use but I imagine accuracy might be it's best attribute (allong with portability of course).
