Default set up for glue joint bits

I have tried for some time to devise a fool proof method of determining the exact height to set a glue joint bit so that when I flip the piece, and cut a joint, the two should match perfectly (well almost). I have used the try/adjust up or down/try etc until I get it, then find I need to do something else with the router and lose the setting, so I have to start all over. I am hopeful taht some has had a cleaver idea on how to do this set up quickly and accurately. Glue jointing with a router is great, but the set is really labour intensive.
Any body got a thought please.

    Thanks Ingin

there was a tip/method in a recent (i.e. last 12 months?) issue of Fine woodworking or Popular woodworking that involves using a vernier to set the bit height -- based, IIRC, on setting the midpoint of the bit to match the mid-point of the timber

There is a piece is the latest Carbatec Catalogue (Feb 2012) detailing the set-up. Probably on their website as well

    from Carba-tec's web site
By accurately centring the bit to the wood, the upper and lower vertical cutting edges of the bit will cut equal proportions.

To accurately centre the wood to the bit, first adjust the bit according to the thickness of the wood you are cutting. Second, line up the cut edge of the wood [to] the centre point of the bit. The upper and lower vertical cutting edges of the bit are in proportion and at equal distance to the centre point of the bit. Then run one edge of the panel, turn the piece over and run the other edge for exact reverse cuts that match up perfectly. Assemble the reverse cut pairs...

When you get it right, keep a sample piece and use it next time as your template to set up from.

You will need one for each thickness you use, mark it as template when you put it away.
