Default Slot alignment - collet reducer

I have always lined up the slot in the reducer with a slot in the collet of my router. I have recently been told you should align the slot in the reducer at 90 degrees to the slot in the collet.

    Any thoughts?

I have always understood that they should align.

I've never worried too much and never had any problems. I would have thought that aligning the slots could lead to slightly off centre rotation? Although you need to remember that all these things are machined to fine tolerances so maybe it doesn't make much difference either way. Now if we could stick a bit with a 150mm shank in the router that might tell us a bit more! Nah, too scarey!
