    Default Spiral upcut bit prices

Now that some new catalogues have arrived, it is interesting to compare prices for solid carbide spiral upcut bits from different suppliers. I should note that my most recent CMT catalogue is for 2000, but prices are unlikely to have fallen since then.

    MIK CMT LEE VALLEY
    1/4" $101 $41 US$17.25
    5/16" $231 $67 US$28.95 (plus US$3.25 for bushing adapter)
    3/8" $231 $109 US$29.75 (plus US$3.25 for bushing adapter)
    1/2" $254 $109 US$47.50

I can only say that local suppliers must be supreme optimists if they expect customers to pay around four times as much for the privilege of buying locally.

    I feel better now.

Awaiting a couple of bits I ordered from LV the other day, I now rest assured I made a prudent fiscal decision.
Plus delivery time from Canada is heaps quicker than western Sydney.
    Boring signature time again!

Has anyone had any experience with the McJing spiral bits?

    Mat,

Just bought a 1/2" one from McJing for $55, and IMO it is a good bit. My experience in routing, however, is limited.

It left a very clean finish on Ringed Myall.

    P.S. The CMT is $119 for the 12.7D X 50.8 L (cutter). As of the 2004 cattledog.
