surface planing with a router
made a table up to level a benchtop with a surface planer router bit but the carbitec bit is too short does anyone no of a bit with a longer 1/2 shaft or is there something im not doin right cheers

Carb-i-tool make 1/2" bits with up to 2" (50mm) of cutting edge on a standard 1/2 shank - they are around 3.5" long. I think CMT also make super long cutters too.
I suspect your main problem is that your carriage or rails are too thick, thereby holding the router too far above the surface to be flattened. Do a search for other plans at :

Last month's Woodsmith Magazine (USA edition) had plans for a router surfacer.
I have bought router bits from:
eBay Australia Shop - Super Carbide Tools: Single bit, 2 pc Set, 1 4 Shank
