    Question Side table or separate?

Just wanting to guage whether making a separate router table or getting the TSC10HB addon is a preferred means. I'm happy putting the big triton there and leaving it, using a little GMC for handrouting when required. I've looked at many of the old posts but I'm wondering which way and why people have gone...

    Pros for separate table
    - it's separate (don't need the 10HB nearby, mobile)
    - better chance at doing dust extraction (true?)
    - don't need to add leg(s) to 10HB to take the extra weight

    Pros for 10HB side table
    - flat/machined already - don't have to worry about sag
    - it's in one place and can't be missed (move to where I can't find it)

    Thanks
    Rob

Red face Sturdee & triton RTA300 mod

Well, didn't read as many of the right old posts as I thought I had ...

Given that the cast iron version is about $159 from Timbecon (+ shipping - eek!), but a Triton RTA is $189 and comes with (I think) the mounting plate for the TRA001 (which is what I'd put in it), Sturdee's great writeup is looking liking a good alternative (not factoring the angle bar etc. to put it together). Given I'm more space-poor than space-rich, either seem like a good option vs a separate table.

Sturdee - any comments/thoughts wrt your table after 1.5 years?

    Anyone else?

    Regards
    Rob

    My 2 cents worth ?

I have the space so the seperate table (cast iron) was good for me. The thought of making one up from scratch haunted me. Geez I only got around to building my work bench 18mths+ after I got the new shed !!

So if you have the space then yup go seperate (on wheels would be betterer) if not then give the table extension some serious thought.

Sturdees mod is certainly a ripper, shame about that orange stuff he stuck on there

    Thanks meerkat,
Since I've the orange version of the TS rather than the blue, more orange doesn't phase me (single OR three).

Although I haven't been able to get into the workshop and use my equipment as much as I would like (fixing up and making over the backyard, improving the BBQ area and building overhead shelving in the garage) the times when I needed the router it was very easy to use.

The saving in space in not having a separate router table (as it fits between the TS fence rails) is fantastic. If you do this make sure you also get the Triton type on/off switch or similar as you don't need the router stand but only the router tabletop.

Also with the router below the table (easy with the Triton router) and the saw blade lowered and the overhead guard and fence removed I have another large work area.

BTW do a further search and you'l find my posts on how to attach the Triton sliding extension table (great for handling large sheets) and my TS jigs.
