Tightening the under-collet on a Triton TRA001

Dear Internet,

I have a question!

I've removed, on my Triton TRA001, the under-collet that winds onto the motor itself. Not sure of the name, but it's not the upper-collet you fool with to put your bits into, but the one that THAT one winds onto.

Removing it to replace it was straight forward, but how does one tighten it back onto the body rock hard?

Triton conveniently forgot to put a hex-head nut, screw flat or anything resembling something useful at the end of the motor shaft for which to apply torque in the reverse direction.

This is a good link. It turns up readily on any google search and it was reviewed with the explosion diagram before hand. I have to admit, I also found the UK guy with the parts lists and better PDFs

So, other than a somewhat arbitrary application of minimal force can one actually tighten it on?

I wonder how they do it at the factory. Maybe they rig it onto a vice and simply turn it on? Let the thread catch up and then lock using the mighty 3hp? It strikes me as so completely arbitrary and bloody dangerous....

It doesn't need external tightening as such. The system is engineered so that motor torque and the load the bit applies to the collet automatically tighten the collet holder on the shaft when the machine is working, so getting it initially finger tight is adequate. The RG cord method, followed by loading and plunging a bit into hardwood will definitely lock it in place.
