    Default Torquata birdsmouth bit

    Hi Everyone,

After a bit of advice please. I've just purchased a Torquata birdsmouth bit. I note the max revs for this bit is 18,000. My router, a Makita 3612, runs at 22,000. I'm wondering if I'd be taking a risk still using it at these speeds. I'm planning to use it on some NZ Kauri which is usually pretty easy to work. I'll be using it on a router table.

    TIA for any advice

    Cheers,

    David

I wouldn't expect you to run into too many problems with that, particularly if you're not using the full 22mm depth of cut. If you have concerns you could start with a lighter cut before moving to the final cut depth. I'd be using featherboards to ensure accurate feeding of the stock, it really can make a tremendous difference both to the safety aspect and the quality of the finished job.

Thanks aldav. I was thinking along similar lines. Won't be a huge cut and yes, fingerboards are always a must 🙂

Nah you'll be fine, I've run 12k max bits at 18k and nothing exploded.

It's not the exploding they are worried about it's the control. In the router table not really a problem

Thanks for all the advice guys. I was pretty confident all would be good but checking with others is always a good thing.
