    Default Trend T5 base plate

I have a trend T5 router its a copy of the old Elu96e which I also have. The thin formica type base plate has just fallen off and i need to glue it back on I was going to use contact adhesive what are your thoughts.
On the old Elu this was screwed on but the Trend one they must have cut costs by glueing it on. Also anyone know of places to buy parts for old Elu's as I would rather carry on using my Elu as the Trend one is a very poor copy.

    Hi Joiner,

Ive heard that about the T5, its a shame really...they had the chance to reproduce one of the greatest routers
Have you tried contacting DeWalt Uk? they may be able to get you parts for the Elu.
Heres a link to a Uk shop with limited Elu 96 parts:
    http://www.tool-net.co.uk/search/ind...of96e&b=search

just type elu96 into the search bar on the website.

I think theres others, if you have a wee search on the net.
    Cheers.

Hello Londonjoiner, I too have both routers and feel the same way as you on the Trend. I also needed some spares for my Elu 96 and got them from stock quite quickly from these people: http://www.toolshopdirect.co.uk/index.html
They are quite local to me but the postage costs are reasonable anyway and they arrived within a couple of days. I Have two Elu 96's and the Trend T5 and have to admit the Trend is a poor copy of them. I also have the De Walt 615 which is a very good copy of the old Elu even down to the smooth as silk plunge action. Hope this helps you.

Mailee, you dont need two 96e's one should be enough for all your needs
How about passing one over my direction
Yeah, I think I would go for the 615 over the T5.
I'll be back in the uk in June, and will be looking for elu. if that fails 615.

Actually Underused, I have two Elu 96's, one De Walt 615, One Trend T5, one De Walt 625, one Freud V2000, one Hitachi M12V, and a Power Pro 1250. Oh and a Bosh 600. I use most of them as I have them set up for various jobs around the shop. You may want to take a look on E-bay when you get back as that is where I bought my second Elu 96, it was brand new and boxed! I have no idea where it came from as I thought they had gone out of business? I assume someone must have a stock of them left.

    Default T5

I have the Elu96EK and the T5 EK also ive got the big daddy Dewalt 626 that really is a powerful router I have had 2 of the dewalt 625's and they were absolute rubbish I spent months with the first one running around to different service agents trying to find out why the router bits wobbled while spinning. All the time being told this was normal (yeah right).
Dewalt changed the armature still no joy and basically I felt like no one believed me and dewalt were calling me a liar, in the end they found that there was a problem in the casting or something inside was bent.

They replaced it with a new 625 while using this a month later I noticed the metal casting on this was cracked so sent this back very annoyed at this point I said that the least they could do is replace it with the newer better 626 and this has been good (touch wood). I wouldnt mind but I only use a half inch router every now and then to do worktop joint etc.

This has well and truly put me off dewalt shame Elu cant make a come back.

PS i had same trouble with T5 with wobble and they replaced it after more messing around but I still think its rubbish when I bought it originally it had that cheap oily smell when I opened the box, like all that cheap taiwanese rubbish that they sell in screwfix etc

I have to admit Londonjoiner that I have had my De Walt 625 for a couple of years now and have had no problems with it at all. I also use mine mainly for kitchen worktops but it is often used in the workshop too. I too would have bought the old Elu 177E if they had still been making them but have found the 625 a good substitute. Mine is the 200 Watt model but I think the older 1850 Watt model was just as good.

Umm the 177E, excellent if you can get your hands on one
Ive heard the 625 isnt a bad replacement
Have you used the 621, what do you think about that?

I have had a chance to try the De Walt 621 at one of the woodworking shows but am not a fan. I object to the switch that you have to hold on to to keep it going. I dubbed them the idiot switch. I know it is a safety feature but is a pain in the bum to keep held in while routing. It does have a good idea with the dust extraction through the column but other than that I will stick to my 625. I just refuse to buy any router with an idiot switch I am afraid. Just one of my pet hates.

I wish people would stop calling the Trend T5 the new Elu MOF 96. The Trend T5 is absolute rubbish and can in no way be compared.

Elu never made a machine themselves - rather, contracted other companies to make them. In the case of the MOF 96, they contracted Swiss company, PERLES to build it AND TO THEIR SPECS!

This machine was built and rebranded by at least 10 other companies over the years including WEGOMA, WÜRTH, AEG and even EINHELL.

PERLES builds the T5 but to Trend specs and a lot of the production is in former East Block countries.

If the MOF 96 has a successor then it can only be the DeWalt 614. The MOF 96E would be the DeWalt 615. This is because DeWalt bought out Elu and continued to order many of their products (re-branded of course). Again, these are made to DeWalt's specs! I personally find all their newer gear highly over-rated.

The Trend T11s and T10s are tops. They are built by Black & Decker (DeWalt, Porter Cable) and these are more worthy legacies of the Elu 131.

Trend has some great ideas but don't expect to treat their stuff rough and get away with it...

Default Trend T5 the new Elu MOF 96

Damienhazo I never said it was "the new Elu MOF 96e" I just said it was a poor copy which it is. I would have gone for the Dewalt 615 router which coming from the same company ie black and decker should be the modern replacement for the Elu mof96e but with all the trouble I had I was not going to buy another Dewalt.

Anyway ive gone back to using my Elu until i fix the base plate of my T5 which is what my message was about and no one seems to have replied to. Should i use contact adhesive to refit the formica sole plate as its not a screw on type like the Elu.

I wasn't specifically referring to you but if you say it's a copy of the Elu MOF 96e (which it isn't) and it's newer (which it is), I assume you mean it is the new Elu MOF 96e.

You can use acetone to remove the bonding compound from both the base and the glide plate. Like the T5, the MOF 96e Type 1s don't have screw holes and they have to be glued.

I used a strong glue from Patex. Evenly spread over both the base and the plate. Holds like hell...

    Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, as regards the t5 not being a copy of the elu96e thats rubbish even a blind man could tell its almost the same shape and design this is because trend bought the rights to copy the design years ago but its all eastern european made rubbish. Maybe I could post a picture of the two together and I am sure everyone would agree but I have better things to do with my time than to argue with you.

Copy means copy. A replication. A facsimile. Perhaps you wanted to say 'similar'? You did use the word ALMOST which is a start...

The base plates are different, the plunge rods are different, the housing shape is different - I know because I've had all of these machines broken down to see what can be married to what. Apart from the height indicator - nothing.

They are undoubtedly SIMILAR, especially the switch housing, but I could send you a picture of a Porsche Ceyanne and a VW Toureg. The co-operative development of these vehicles makes them similar. No-one would claim one is a copy of the other. Closer examination reveals many differences that go far beyond decoration... Perhaps we could agree that the Trend was INSPIRED by the MOF 96. I would be willing to meet you there...

And why are you so busy that you can't post 2 pictures? Perhaps we could agree that you are just plain LAZY...

    Only joking
