100% agree with this.
I've been buying a number of things from China directly via Taobao, AliExpress and AliBaba.
Xiaomi - unbelievably good. Incredible.
Huawei - amazing gear
Huhao - unbelievably good. Incredible.
RPtape - these ultra thin tapes and magic
DXmarket - hardware bits and bobs. very response.
Polywell - sandpapers. Incredible!
and about 3 different hinge makers such as XhongFa and "KELLY PRO" and Guangzhou Jiagu .... edit, forgot Chang Da!!! (they are excellent)
Its REALLY important to talk to them about what you want. Example, Kelly-Pro, had but one set of hinges that were close to what I was after on the site. I enquired. He showed me a photo during a chat (taken that evening as the time was the same) of a FREAKING WAREHOUSE with 50,000 different hinges!
There are problems. We are tiny. Our orders are meaningless volume wise and "we" (as Aussies) are a bit hard to deal with. Price price price. No chatting, no time for pleasantries, no time to detail what we want.... price price price. Now now now. We are bloody rude. This, from my experience, is not how they work. One must ask. One must wait a bit. One must understand the vibe. Once that is done, you get the good stuff.
This might sound pretty racist, but look at the comments from Russians and their orders. They are merciless and utterly blunt in their feedback. There is zero BS or waffling about. They tell it how it is. Its excellent.
How this might help the Big Green Shed (may it die horribly!) I don't know. BUT if someone like Amazon or AliExpress can do a direct store - then the BGS is dead.

’fraid not. People absolutely LOVE cruising the aisles of Bunnies. Trust me, I know. Due to the COVID induced hiatus in my normal job, I’m working part time at Bunnings. It’s absolute bedlam in there right now. During lockdown I was regularly fielding phone calls from people who can’t or won’t use the internet. No Amazon for them. I overheard two people talking a couple of days ago. “It’s just great to be back” said one of them.
In any case, tool sales are a tiny part of Bunnings revenue. Buying timber, bags of concrete, plants, chlorine, barbecues, paint, umbrellas, wheelbarrows online? Not happening.
Bunnings isn’t going anywhere.
