    Default Triton MOF001 replacement

Looking at replacing one of the old Triton MOF001 routers which have been working here for years
Would buy a new one but the reviews are absolutely awful.

Can any one recomend one of the new ones?

If not which plunge router would you suggest that has similar precision and ease of height adjustment as the MOF001

I would need both 1/2" and 1/4" capability.

Do you use it in plunge mode or the “crank” mode? If you’re happy using plunge mode the JOF might be an option?

Although all three Triton models have been getting some abuse over their perceived shortcomings I own 3 of them and apart from replacing the bearings in one (after >10 years of table work) I haven’t had a problem. CMT (who as far as I’m concerned make the best router bits on the planet) are now selling the TRA01 and the JOF under their own label; if they were truly that bad CMT wouldn’t besmirch their name with them.

Plunge? Crank? What does that mean?
I drop the router bit by bit into the job using either fine depth or the handgrip to control depth if cut. I take it down to depth n smallish increments using templates..

By “crank” I meant do you use the rack and pinion system built into the RH handle. If you can live without that feature the JOF also has the fine height adjuster that works across the full depth range

Thanks for the clarification. I use both and couldn't imagine not having the crank.

Looked online to find a price on a new one and none of the triton dealers that come up had any routers listed. No doubt due to bad reviews?

Nothing to do with bad reviews, you pretty much can't get a Triton in Australia at the moment as there is no importer and all stock has been sold. I believe Carbatec will be bringing them in next year.

Do you use it in a table and if so, how do you find the height adjustment and bit changes?

You can't really comment on height adjustment and bit changing with respect to the router 'on its own' - it'll depend on the table, lift and router in combination. I have the router, and rate it highly - but my table mount at present is a cost-driven compromise, where I've bolted the supplied fixed base to the underside. My height and bit changing is slow - but acceptable for me, using test cuts and incremental adjustment.

Conversely, if you need a top end solution, check out this review: INCRA JessEm Mast-R-Lift II: test with router AEG MF1400KE and Incra LS Positioner | FINE TOOLS. (It's titled 'JessEm Mast-R-Lift', but it's actually a joint review of the combination...). If you don't want to scroll through a very detailed review and videos, the conclusion is:

With this test, we primarily wanted to see if the AEG could handle big cuts given its relatively low power output. But what is 1400 watts? In this machine, it’s a lot. In all our tests, there was no sign of motor loading at all, and with the variable speed, there’s plenty of room for it to move.
Pairing the AEG with the Mast-R-Lift ll was pure fun. It’s a marriage made in heaven for those wanting ease of use coupled with accuracy. Together with the Incra LS Positioner, you have a combination that is fast to setup and adjust, easy to use and just plain accurate. I can’t say any more than that. This will save loads of time in the workshop.
I've italicised the bit that is most relevant to your question..
