Triton Router - Access to Collet above Table
Members,
I recently purchased my first router table. It came with a Triton TRA001 router. Finally getting a chance to use this equipment and am loving the versatility and control
the fixed router provides.
Now its time for fine tuning it's use and the first problem to resolve is -
I cannot access the collet above the table for bit changes with the single spanner because the cam will not make sufficient depth into the base plate to activate the spindle lock.
It seems to stop just short, although there is signs of wear on the base plate suggesting that it did once.
Is there some form of adjustment I can perform so that I can enjoy this feature.
I have a plan to install an Incra insert plate that came with the unit, in the near future, however a dry fit with the plate (router now removed from table) does not give me the access I believe should be available.
Same situation exists when router was installed under the table so the problem must be with the router.
I am new to the Forum and enjoying my woodwork even more now I can access the advice of more experienced members who are willing to share.
Looking forward to your assistance.
Thanks

The Triton manual calls it a turret stop.
Look at Items 6 & 9 on page 3 of this manual.
See also, page 7, about 1/2 way down the right hand column.

+1 for turret stop, been there, done that.
The other one that caught me a couple of times when I first got the router was the power switch, the shutter has to be closed to be able to wind the body all the way up so the detent engages.Geoff

It wont go all the way up if you haven't switched it off..........don't ask me how I know.
Nothing to do with your problem, but make sure you remove the spring.Chris

I hadn't struck the power switch problem, mine was a Hitachi that has a nut on the thread to set the dept stop, the nut vibrated loose & walked the whole way along the thread.

Triton Router - Access to Collet above Table
Just back from Bunnings with a little timber to play with - on the router!!
Thanks for your responses and the good advice.
I imagine most table-fixed routers connect the lead to an external switch for simple power control. I know I do.
Never thought that leaving the router switch turned to "on" and controlling power at the external switch would have any impact.
So chalk another safety feature up to Triton, as I turn "off" the switch on the router and find that the cam now travels all the way, leaving the collet nicely protruding a good distance above the base plate.
A hearty thanks to all as I can now continue on my journey to the next stage.

There are a few little oddity tricks in the Triton router. If your s/h one came with a manual read it though a few times, if it didn't try to find one on a Triton site to download. You didn't say which model you have, but the older series TRA has a different height mode selector to the mid sized MOF. Not sure about the newer TR series update (never held one), but I think it is similar to the MOF. If you have to download, try to get one for the same series.
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

No plunger spring was found in the tube under the removeable cap so it appears the router was modified for life under the table.
No manual supplied so will look online for copy and read through to become more familiar with unit.
Next part of plan is to flatten the table top and install the Incra insert plate with router attached.
I have searched this Forum for other members thoughts and ideas and also looked on You Tube.
Quite a lot of information available but will practice a little before diving off the deep end.
