Thread: Triton router different coller sizers

I have both models with different collets, one is as you say 24mm, the other 21mm

I dont think they are interchangable without changing the whole assy

the 24mm is newer and possibly also comes with overhead winder for bench mount

dont do what I did and run the router without a bit in the collet, it ended up slipping and I had to buy a new collet

I just use an open end ring spanner, I have a few of them from my plumbing days if your ever up near Taree

Thank you Hodgo for your reply I to just use a spanner but in saying that I have a have a Makita router and have lost the spanner for that I brought one from Sydney Tools and that is 24mm only cost $ 5 when it come in I will try it on the Triton and that should fit.
I do get up that way from time to time a mate has just brought a house at Wingham if PM your location I will call in and say goday

I find the sidchrome type spanner more comfortable on the hand and offers more leverage than the supplied spanner which I have somewhere

The original TRA collet set had a female threaded body and a male threaded collet similar to early series Makita's and no through table height adjust. Then the intermediate model MOF came out with the male threaded collet body, separate collets, a female collet nut, and a through table adjuster drive built into the body. At that point they were distributed locally by GMC who went bust and disappeared from Australia. One or two smaller retailers acquired what stock and parts they could in the bust up and continued to supply product while they could, but effectively Triton went from good availability to rare as in about a week or so.

Then there was a movement toward acquiring MOF collet assemblies from overseas and retrofitting them to the original TRA machines, because the original collets had a coarse thread and sometimes allowed bit to slip or climb in the collet. Retrofitting basically involved unscrewing the collet body from the motor shaft and screwing on the newer style collet body. Eventually a new distributor was appointed and the TRA/TRB units they imported had the newer style collet as standard. The newer collet was also standard in North America when the TRC model was distributed there. The later TRA/TRB and US units with revised collets also had a through table height adjuster drive as well, as does the later smaller JOF model.
