Triton with stuck Plunge Mode Button
Hi all
I have a TRA001 (new) and the Plunge mode button (the orange one in the handle) is stuck in. Despite tapping it, twisting and pushing the button etc it will not come out. Has anyone else had this problem, or know of a fix please?

Given that the button works on a "push to lock, push again to release" basis and is stuck "in," the only option is to push it in even further in order for the pawls to release. I had this happen once on the smaller model and that IS the answer - but the amount of inward pressure required is quite amazing! Once you get it freed, give it a good blow out with an airline. Good luck!

Thanks Ray, but no go. I blew it out back and front, did a whole new bunch of twisting pushing blah blah. It has about 1mm of depression movement before it comes against a very solid stop (feels metallic, and circularly uniform, i.e. not a chip stopping it, otherwise the stop would feel a bit lopsided). I gave some sharpish but delicate taps with a dead blow hammer as well.

Belay that. Turned it on it's side and pressed it in with Navarone Force (brass tube with a block on the end, heel of hand on block). Finally, a tiny click and the button came half way out, and is operable again. Sounds (feels) like a mechanical design fault to me.

The prize lies beneath - hidden in full view.
Without know the machine fully, if there are springs on the plunge action they could also be holding in the lock mechanism. Try to also plunge slightly at the same time as releasing the lock mechanism may help next time.

G'day Kev. Mate I tried more positions than the Kama Sutra, spring, spring out (coz I was thinking like you). Ray was right, it needs crazy pressure.

I would repeat the airline blow-out right away. If you're interested in how the handle mechanism works, have a look about halfway down this page. I wrote it for the MOF001 model, but the mechanism will be the same, just larger. If you feel confident to do it, a full clean might be in order, depending upon use so far. HTH

Mine does this all the time. As mentioned on a couple of threads on these forums, if you give the black handle a hard whack with a piece of timber, in the direction that you would push the orange button to lock it in, it comes free.
