Triton TRA001 - dust extraction difficulty
Purchased one of these at Carbatec a few months ago, and we've been eyeing each other off for a while. Fired it up yesterday, and had immediate dust extraction problems - none of the fittings I have will stay in (because they are smooth) and a 38mm bare hose will not go in far enough (the DE outlet in the router seems to taper).
Apparently the correct part comes with the rest of the Triton DE module DCA300, which is a dust collector. $59 for the correct attachment seems a bit extreme (and it's not Festool).
Does anyone else have a solution please?
Thanks, FF

Yep, whack some tape around the house of a vacuum to ensure a tight fit, plug it in and Bob's your uncle.

Thanks Waldo, but that's actually the problem - the recommended 38mm OD hose is too tight, and will only go in about 5-6mm before stopping on the tapered hole. If I did as you suggest it wouldn't last any longer than now (2 seconds) because there's not enough "grab" on the hose. The hose in question is on an Aldi Shop vac, and has been measured as correct 38mm.
Something else maybe..............?

Got me stumpted, as I use the same vac myself. Doesn't the hose have a nose that can be taken off? Mine does, which when I hook it up to the Triton the OD is too small so I pack it up with tape.

Yes, that's what I've done - taken the nozzle off - it's bare hose that won't fit in (pushed or reverse screwed). With the smooth sided nozzle on it just pulls out (as you'd expect).

The hoses supplied with the proper Triton dust collector screw straight into the router, and if you are using the Triton router table as well the extractor will suck from both the router base and the fence guard; effectively sucking all the dust from both above and below the workpiece. It's very rare that I'll use my table without the collector fitted in this way.
I also bought the Aldi extractor, but have yet to actually use it (just moved house and still setting up shed); I generally use a tiny little Panasonic vacuum with no bag fitted via the Triton dust collector. I think the hose used on these small vac's will also screw in; if that's the case just find an old vac hose (local tip maybe?) and permanently fit a short section to the router. Then either use one of the Aldi adaptors to join the two hoses or tape them up together.
I would still reccommend getting the triton collector though as it is amazing how much dust it grabs. The pleated filter on the shop vac will clog up in next to no time; the Triton the filter is flat and responds well to being either brushed clean or removed and banged against a handy wall. There are also several threads in these forums about turning the collector into a cyclonic separator that hardly ever needs cleaning.
