    Default Triton TRA001'B'

Carbatec NZ have had the Triton TRA001 back in stock for a few weeks now, but they are showing TRA001B. I can't find any reference to the B even on the Triton site. I can ask Triton, but they are in Auckland under Level 4 COVID lockdown, and the shop is not open. They are not able to send out orders till they drop back to COVID Level 3 so there is no great rush, but I'd like to know what the B suffix means before committing. So does anyone here know?

For what it is worth, I have been using a Bosch 1600CE for several months, both table mounted and with its plunge base. I love this router, and it has had some really heavy use without breaking a sweat, but it just isn't as good as the TRA001 table mounted. It's three stage adjustment is a PITA. The height you need always seems to fall right on the brink between two stages, and lifting the router from above the table is definitely not as fluid as the Triton. I find I sometimes have to reach under the table and support the router's weight when adjusting it up. The TRA handles this perfectly with no fuss. The only advantage the Bosch has is that it is calibrated in millimetres, but that is not a big deal.

I am also not happy with my router cabinet build. The 31mm kitchen worktop is not perfectly flat, and the Acetal insert I made is not as stiff as I hoped, so I am going to rebuild the top using a Kreg insert and Triton TRA001, and keep the Bosch for plunge base use.

I have asked the question a number of times as to the difference between the 001 and 001B but never been able to find a definitive answer. The above table height winder was added some time ago with no change to the model number and I believe they all come with the metal instead of nylon fine adjustment worm now.
If you can get an answer from a reliable source I will be happy to hear it.
I have both the Triton MOF001 and a Bosch 1300CE router and find they are an excellent combination. The Triton lives in the table because of its user friendly features for this location, and I use the Bosch for handheld use and find it is a great router for this. Best of both worlds.

I've emailed Carbatec NZ, but I am not sure when I'll get an answer. The shop is closed until Auckland drops a COVID Level, and they are going to be flat out filling orders when they open, so unless someone who reads my email from their home happens to know the answer off the top of his head, I can't see them studying packaging looking for answers any time soon. I'll be sure to report if and when I get an answer.

Just to be clear, I love my Bosch 1600CE. The plunge base is the best I have ever used, although there is a slight delay if you stop and restart for whatever reason. The three stage micro adjustment does not seem to have the problems in the plunge base as the fixed based that I've used to table mount it. It just isn't nearly as good as the TRA001 and MOF001 table mounted (I've used both at my Menz Shed).

Just an update to this thread. Carbatec did get back to me with the following response:

    Hi,
No B is only their model update they did a long time ago. There's noperformance difference and is still the same great choice for under a routertable. Yes you can order it from the website.
    Thanks

I ordered the TRA001 and it arrived last week, which was much sooner than they'd advised because they told me the Auckland COVID Level change would cause a severe backlog getting orders out.
A point of interest here, I ordered a Kreg Portable Crosscut from Carbatec yesterday, and was advised that the order had been processed today, so I guess they have cleared their backlog.
I compared the full price of the Portable Crosscut from Amazon and Carbatec were not quite NZ$10 more which I decided was well worth the quicker delivery.

[EDIT] I should have added that I can find no difference with the TRA001 I have just received with the one I have been using for the last few years at my Menz Shed, so I still don't have a definitive answer for what the B suffix refers to.
