Default How do I make twisted wood canes?

To say I am a newbies to wood working would be an understatement. I would like to make canes with the twisted wood effect. I figure I need a router but don't know what type. I'm looking for a machine that I can use in my home without the utility company considering me a valued customer. I would like to insert a picture here so that people would know what I am talking about but can't see a way to do it so I will post a link of what I would like to make. I'll probably need a lathe also to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

You could start with a length of dowel, a rasp and some sandpaper, especially with a shallow twist like that.

That is quite a shallow twist. If you want to use the router you can get a barley twist jig (for want of its proper name). It is basically a set of rails and pullies that rotate the timber as you advance the router along the rails.

I would think you could find one by searching the Timbecon website - from memory they are in the range of $200-$300.

    Cheers
